Bromo (2) – “pananjakan”

so, it was only about an hour before when me and my friends finally fall a sleep, and now, the local guide already knocked the door to tell us to prepare for the sunrise at pananjakan.  i looked at my watch, it was 3 in the morning, some of my friends were still a sleep, too tired to hear the door knocked. slowly i opened the door, tell the local guide that we’ll be ready in 15 minutes. i woke two of my friends, it was too cold to take a bath, so all of us decide that brush our teeth and wash our face was a wise things rather than take a bath and get frozen! (hahaha..)

unlike what i have promises to the local guide, we finally gathered at the meeting point at 4 A.M. without anymore wasting time, we get on the motorcycle and went to pananjakan. actually there were two point called pananjakan there, it was pananjakan 1 and pananjakan 2, both offered breath taking view of bromo’s landscape, including batok mountain and sea sand from the top. this time, we will get to pananjakan 1, the one closer to the sea sands. along the way, i try to fight with the cold air by asking several questions to my guide,

“unfortunatly it was rainy season… you might don’t get the best view for the sunrise..” said the local guide.

“yeah i know, but it’s worth to try, my friends can only gathered this occasions though..” i replied

about half an hour, we arrived at the pananjakan.

“this was as far as i could take you.. the rest, you must climb through that to get on the view point.. the seruni point..” the local guide pointed an endless stone staircase in front of us.

“the sunrise is about half an hour from now, so you must get hurry! i will wait you here.. please be aware of our schedule, because we still have three more scene to look for before 11 A.M…” he continued

we started to walk through that endless staircase, ghost! it seems there is no end of those stair case, the low temperature and air pressure pushes me and my friends to take a rest and drink water at the middle of the way, luckily there were still some local people who sell some coffee and snacks there (with reasonable price of course, but whatever)

this was view of mount “batok” batok was javanesee language for coconut’s shell, it refers to the shape of the mountain.  the urban legend of the local people said that it was actually comes from a coconut shell! if you want to hear about the exact story about it, you may search for  “roro anteng and joko seger tale”
